Gingerbread House

This (almost) edible confection, which is part of our personal holiday display, has been in the works since last year.  It took me a while to decide how to make the body of this house.  I finally settled on using a 4′ x 8’sheet of 1 1/2 ” rigid insulation, which was very easy to cut.  All of the decorative “candy & treats” are either from the Dollar Stores or from last year’s local after Christmas sales.  The Peppermint Flowers & window boxes were inspired by a suggestion from Ed Wendt. The lollipop weather vane is pointing “true North” thanks to an iPhone app.

Santa Sends His Greetings!

Everything imaginable & Hula Girls, too!  The Santa figure will come to life with the clap of your hands.  The family that puts this extravaganza together must not only have a great sense of humor, but a goodly amount of dedication to their annual decorating project.  Drive past their display at Loma/Colorado.

Vail’s Dizzyland

If you have never visited the lights display at Obispo/Broadway, this is a good year to drop by.  Not only is the entire front yard, including the roof, decorated, but there is a miniature wonderland on the front porch, which guests are invited to visit.  The “jolly elf” who’s magic brings his display to life each year also has several wonderful sets of themed villages in the living room, which can be viewed from the front yard. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jhandbell/11454520285/

Santa Chasing a Christmas Goose

The Santa & “flapping” Christmas Goose can be seen at Third St. & Gaviota.  Another interesting mix of outdoor decor these egalitarian holiday merry makers have been collecting for some time.

Craftsman Village Winner, First of 2013

This beautiful home at Temple/8th was among the first homes considered for the Jingle Awards of 2013. The lovely Craftsman Village residence is the only house on a very long block to have put up lights. They’re brave!
